Since 1990, Canada’s National Women’s Team has been in power, winning nine world titles, two Olympic gold medals and 12 3 Nations/4 Nations Cups. From their success, womens hockey has become more popular in the last decade. Recordings of women registering in hockey has dramatically increased.

History of Womens Hockey:
Lord Stanley of Preston's daughter, Lady Isobel Stanley, was a pioneer in the women's hockey. She is one of the first females to be photographed using a puck and stick. This photograph was taken on a rink at Rideau Hall, in Ottawa, Ontario.
By the early 1900s, women's teams were common throughout most of the Canadian provinces, the long skirts they were still required to wear giving them a goal-tending advantage.
